JLM Mission Statement
JLM Case Statement
The Junior League of Memphis (JLM) is a group of women focused on creating stronger communities by developing the potential of its membership through training, mentoring and volunteering. We create a sense of community, a fellowship of women, a legacy of mentors and a network of friends who support the Mid-South. In existence for almost 90 years, the JLM exists to empower and train women to volunteer and lead their community toward positive change. We make an impact on women, children and critical needs in our community with hands-on volunteer experiences. The work of the (JLM) is more important than ever due to the significant impact of the economy on nonprofit services in the United States.
The JLM is 1600 strong, and stands as the largest volunteer organization in the Mid-South. Over 80% of our active members are working professionals, and our entire membership represents all areas of our region. We are a catalyst for change as we work with nonprofit agencies to supplement their work, providing the hands and hearts to directly deliver social services through voluntarism.
The JLM pairs money and volunteers better than any other nonprofit. We create long term partnerships and develop new nonprofits and programs that change the face of the Mid-South. We take community project applications, develop them to reach shared goals and breathe life into ideas. Our membership and the individuals we serve are forever changed through the resulting community projects.
Without our volunteers, many nonprofits would be unable to try innovative pilot programs because of inability to staff or fund. Since inception in 1922, the JLM membership has raised and given over $13 million back to the community. Without the women of the JLM, our community would not have a group focused specifically on developing the potential of women in tandem with volunteering in the community.
