President’s Note

Welcome to the Junior League of Memphis!

Founded in 1922 by seventeen trail-blazing women, our membership is now over 1,300 strong and proud to be celebrating one hundred years of leading positive and lasting change throughout the Greater Memphis Area. As we celebrate our Centennial, we are proud to look back at some of the major Memphis landmarks and organizations, such as Hope House, the Orpheum Theatre, WKNO, Memphis in May, Children’s Museum of Memphis, LeBonheur Children’s Hospital and Volunteer Mid-South that the Junior League of Memphis has played a part in either founding or enriching. We’ve done this by building a pipeline of Mission-focused volunteers who are intent on making meaningful impact by improving our communities, promoting voluntarism and advancing women’s leadership. I see overwhelming potential in each of our members; when we work together, our impact is powerful.

We are proud of our history, but excited about what is to come. The theme for our two-year term is United We Serve. We pledge to nurture a premier membership experience where every member not only feels they belong, but understands how important they are to our organization and flourishes as a growing leader. We train our members to become Impact Players – people who are ready to jump in and contribute where there is the greatest need. What differentiates the Junior League of Memphis is the relationships and connections we make while working together and collaborating with community partners throughout our city.

JLM Friends, I invite you to join us in our Mission. There are three ways you can get involved:

  1. There is no better or more important time to become a member of the Junior League of Memphis. Whether you join us to provide resources to an under-served community, meet more like-minded women, or want to learn new skills to continue your leadership development, this is the right place for you.
  2. Consider supporting the JLM with your resources. Every dollar received goes directly to fund our Mission and support our community programming.
  3. Partner with us! We love working with other non-profits to make our collective impact stronger.

I’m humbled and honored to serve as the Junior League of Memphis President and to be part of this legacy of tremendous servant leaders.

JLM Members, our future is so bright. We’ve got big plans these next two years as United We Serve our Mission, our great city and each other. Now is the time for the JLM to shine even brighter as a positive change agent for the City of Memphis. Now is the time for us to be forward-facing and focus on the difference we can make together.

With a grateful heart,

Traci Blair Strickland
